2020 Ninth Circuit Civics Contest

The District of Arizona invites high school students to enter the 2020 Ninth Circuit Civics Essay and Video Contest.  In Arizona, the federal courts will hold a local contest to select three finalists in the both the essay and video competitions.  These Arizona finalists will receive prizes of $1,000, $500, and $250 and advance to the final level of the contest at the Ninth Circuit to compete for additional prizes of $2,000, $1,000, and $500 and a trip to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference in July 2020 in Portland, Oregon.  All essays and videos must be submitted by March 25, 2020.  The contest rules, instructions, judging criteria, past entries, and research materials are available at  http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/civicscontest/.

The theme of this year's contest is “The Right to Vote: Milestone Anniversaries.”  As we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the ratification of the 15th Amendment and the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, students are invited to consider the significance of these amendments, barriers to voting that remained after the ratification of these amendments, and voting rights today.
