The current terms of office of United States Magistrate Judges Camille D. Bibles and Maria S. Aguilera are due to expire on February 5, 2027, and March 31, 2027, respectively. The United States District Court is required by law to establish a panel of citizens to consider the reappointment of the magistrate judges to a new eight year term.
The duties of a magistrate judge in this court include the following:
- conduct of most preliminary proceedings in criminal cases;
- trial and disposition of misdemeanor cases;
- conduct of various pretrial matters and evidentiary proceedings on delegation from a district judge; and
- trial and disposition of civil cases upon consent of the litigants.
Comments from members of the bar and the public are invited as to whether the incumbent magistrate judges should be recommended by the panel for reappointment by the court. All comments will be kept confidential. Comments must be received by September 30, 2026, and may be submitted via email to commentsCDB@azd.uscourts.gov or commentsMSA@azd.uscourts.gov or by mail or in person to:
